Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada and raised in the United States. She's worked as an editor since the year 1995. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips which include commentary on the depictions of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and American feminist media critique. She is the author and executive director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit site that examines the representation of women in popular culture narratives. She's committed to removing stereotypes about women and how they appear in popular media. Additionally she has a mission to increase awareness about online harassment targeted at women, and other the marginalized communities of people. Holding a master's degree in social and political thought from York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public speaker and she has delivered speech at the TEDxWomen Festival as well as the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Passionate about issues of gender and feminism since the age of 7, she started her site Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was still a student at the University. She was a young woman with a dream to develop a series of web videos that would examine how gender is represented in video games. In the end, she ended up being victimized by online harassment. The attack did not stop her, but instead strengthened her determination as feminist media critic. In recognition of the many accomplishments she's made to feminist movements, she has been recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning media journalist. She also serves as the director and founder of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit organisation that studies pop culture depictions of women.
