Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18 20th, 2000) is an American performer and actress. Her career spans more than 40 years. London is a torch singer loved for her soft, melodic vocals and her languid contralto voice was a recording artist on more than thirty albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 and 1969. The track she recorded "Cry Me a River", a track she introduced on her debut album, was accepted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. In addition to the recording, London was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1974 in her role as nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she began her acting career. London's career in acting lasted 35 years. It began in 1944 when she was cast in movies. This included roles as the lead female in numerous westerns. She also starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958), and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). The singer signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This was the start of her professional music career. The album she released was her last studio album in 1969 but continued to have success as the female lead role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) She starred alongside her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband, produced the show.
